About me
Who I AM
Parvez Ahmad Rony is a team leader at Drik, a leading independent media organisation in Bangladesh. He has been working as a photojournalist for over a decade, covering a range of social, political, and environmental issues in the region. He has also been managing the digital assets and archives of Drik, ensuring the preservation and accessibility of its rich and diverse collection of images and stories.
Rony has a strong passion for visual storytelling and documentary photography and has participated in several national and international exhibitions. He takes special pride in the roadside exhibitions he has organised and curated. He has worked for multiple national dailies and contributed to global agencies, showcasing his skills in still photography and photo assisting. He holds an advanced diploma in photography from Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, where he specialised in photojournalism and documentary.
Photography
He is a professional photographer who finds his comfort in photojournalism, starting as a street photographer. For over a decade, he has covered natural disasters—floods, cyclones; human-made tragedies—building collapses, factory fires, political violence—elections, strikes, the student-led safe road movement, the COVID-19 pandemic, and mass uprisings on the streets of Bangladesh. In addition to these, he is also working on long-term documentary projects that focus on issues such as border killings, climate change, and migration in Bangladesh.
Archiving
He has overseen the largest photographic archive department in South Asia, Drik. Moving away from traditional methods, he and his team are now re-preserving Drik’s archive in an innovative way. Notable content there includes photographs from the 1971 Liberation War, glass plate negatives from the early 19th century, films, and rare prints. Additionally, he coordinates the integration of archival materials into research and exhibitions, and is involved in researching the history of photography practice in Bangladesh at Drik.
Investigative Reporting
He works with various international media outlets as an investigative journalist. Additionally, he has worked on various documentaries, films, and reports covering topics such as migration, the Digital Security Act, freedom of expression, corruption, enforced disappearances, and more.
